Honey Tasting Room- Turn Right!
Springtime is my favorite time to drive down SR 126 towards Ventura. It’s not just the views of the green hills, but if you catch it at just the right time, you can roll down your windows and the car will fill with the most mesmerizing aroma, the smell of orange blossoms. It so happens that I’m not the only one who loves the smell of orange blossoms. Thousands of honeybees also frequent that area and wouldn’t you know… they make the most amazing honey. If you happen to find yourself driving westbound on California State Route 126 this summer, and you see a sign on the side of the road that says “Honey Tasting Room” located a few miles before you get to downtown Fillmore, I would recommend you follow the sign and turn right.
Once inside this sweet little store, there are so many things to explore and taste! Bennett’s is a locally based honey producer. They offer a variety of honey and honey linked products from farms along SR126, from other states and other countries. They have a honey tasting station that gives you a chance to try honey from bee’s that source their pollen from Sage, Buckwheat, Clover, Orange, Blueberry and Wildflower. You can try them all to see which ones you like the best. I’ve heard it said that if you eat local honey that it can help your body fight off seasonal allergies, (I am not a doctor, so do your own research or check with your doctor).
They have honey jars, honey tubs, honey sticks, honeycomb, creamed honey, bee wax, bee pollen (I hear people put this in their morning shakes), bee tee-shirts, bee books, all kinds of soaps, candles, lotions with bee products in it. My personal favorite is The Naked Bee Lotion. It feels amazing and smells just like those orange blossoms I was mentioning. They have testers in the store, so be sure to try it out when you visit.
The kids love to come with us to Bennett’s Honey Tasting room. Aside from the honey sticks that they love to snack on, there is also a see through beehive inside the store. You can safely see how the bees interact with one another in their hive, and if you're skilled, you may even find the queen bee. A great way to supplement what they have learned in school.
They have very reasonable prices on their products. Once you have purchased any goodies you wanted to take home, you can use and enjoy a little picnic area out by the parking lot in the shade of some citrus trees. So next time your driving down SR 126 and have a few minutes of time....turn into Bennett's Honey Tasting Room. You will be glad you did!
